We hope you’ll use this site as a resource to learn more about the great work that is being done to help empower women worldwide. A great way to stay up-to-date with Half the Sky is through our mailing list. You can sign up in the top right corner to read about ways to get involved and how to make a difference in your community. We will let you know about Half the Sky-related events including hosting a book discussion or a viewing party of the series. You’ll also be the first to try out the Half the Sky Facebook game.
On October 1 and 2, 2012, PBS will air a two-night special that chronicles women and girls in 10 countries who have overcome astounding obstacles and the remarkable individuals working by their side. Each of these stories will focus on one of six key issues: economic opportunity, education, forced prostitution, gender-based-violence, maternal mortality and sex trafficking. You can learn more about these under the “Issues” tab.
Between now and October, Half the Sky will be working to raise the profile of these issues and shed light on the individuals and organizations working to inspire and empower women worldwide. Check out the “Features” tab to see which issue is featured each month and concrete ways for you to help women advance towards gender equality. Use the “Partners” tab to explore great organizations that are working to empower women.
In conjunction with each featured issue, we will be debuting new video content every week, so check back to see new stories, including more from our actresses and advocates. And please visit this blog frequently for updates from women and girls featured in Half the Sky. We value your input and welcome comments.
A movement is growing… that tells the stories of women and girls around the world standing up for hope, dignity and change. Join the movement.
